Fela Kuti - Fela's Afrodisiac (50th Anniversary Edition)
Red & Green Marbled Vinyl (45 RPM)
Fela Kuti's "Afrodisiac" is being lavishly reissued on limited edition marble green (LP1) and marble red (LP2) double vinyl for its 50th anniversary, including gold obi-strip and liner notes by Chris May. Fela Kuti (1938-1997) was a Nigerian musician, producer, arranger, political radical, outlaw and the founder of Afrobeat
Fela's musical and sociopolitical legacy spans decades and genres including jazz, pop, funk, hip-hop, rock and more. "Afrodisiac" is the fifth album in Fela's 50th anniversary reissue series. The songs on "Afrodisiac" were tracks that Fela and the Nigeria 70 (later Africa 70) re-recorded at Abbey Road Studios in 1972 after they became hits in Nigeria. The album's best-known song, "Jeun Ko Ku," is listed on this album under its pidgin title "Chop and Quench" ("Eat and Die") - a satire on gluttony and Fela's first big hit in West Africa. "Afrodisiac" was reissued on vinyl for the first time in 2014 as part of the Brian Eno-curated "Fela Box Set #3." Eno performed "Afrodisiac" for David Byrne and was a major influence on Talking Head's "Remain In Light."
