The concert recording now available for the first time as a standalone on CD and vinyl

Warner Music has announced the release of "Pink Floyd Live At Knebworth 1990," which will appear for the first time on CD and double vinyl. The concert was part of the Silver Clef winners' star-studded 1990 performance at Knebworth House in Hertfordshire, where Pink Floyd were the headliners

At the memorable concert of Silver Clef Award winners at Knebworth, Pink Floyd led an all-star lineup that included Paul McCartney, Dire Straits, Genesis, Phil Collins, Mark Knopfler, Robert Plant (with Jimmy Page), Cliff Richard, Eric Clapton and Tears For Fears. Some 120,000 music fans witnessed these rock giants come together on Knebworth's hallowed stage to perform for the benefit of the Nordoff Robbins Foundation. All proceeds from the concert, which was broadcast live on MTV, went toward building the BRIT School

David Munns, Chairman of Nordoff Robbins, remembers the event well, "The Knebworth concert was a defining moment in terms of the music industry's commitment to Nordoff Robbins, the BRIT Trust and the concept of BRIT School. It was a fantastic day, culminating in this brilliant performance by Pink Floyd. The funds raised laid the foundation for BRIT School and enabled Nordoff Robbins to significantly expand its services. Knebworth will go down in history as a great moment and the music industry should be very proud of what has been achieved."

Nick Mason also thinks back fondly on the concert, "Knebworth has a very special magic. We all still have fond memories of our Gigs there in the 70s and it was no different with this show. As a North London lad it was almost a homecoming for me, plus the joy of reuniting with the rest of the band after we had previously played a pretty gigantic tour that ran for well over a year. Along with that, it was an opportunity to have the great Candy Dulfer play - I had been a fan of hers for quite a while and it was too bad that the opportunity to include her more often didn't present itself. And last but not least, we were able to welcome our dear friend Michael Kamen as a guest, who had contributed so much to Pink Floyd over the previous ten years, so it's great to have him on the recording as well."

Pink Floyd - David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright - were joined for their set by members of their touring band, namely Guy Pratt, Jon Carin, Tim Renwick and Gary Wallis. Background vocals came from Durga McBroom, Sam Brown and her mother Vicki, as well as Clare Torry (the original vocalist for The Great Gig In The Sky). Guest musicians welcomed Pink Floyd saxophonist Candy Dulfer and keyboardist and composer Michael Kamen to the stage

David Gilmour and Andy Jackson have remixed all seven tracks from this legendary concert, and the album also holds new artwork photographed by Floyd ancestral creative partner Aubrey "Po" Powell and designed by Storm Studios' Peter Curzon. The concert, which was released for the first time ever with "The Later Years" box set in 2019, is now available as a CD or double vinyl set, marking the first time it has been available as a standalone album.

The concert first appeared in 2019's "The Later Years" box set and now finally gets the stand-alone release it deserves. The track listing makes the hearts of all Floyd fans beat faster in any case.

Reviews

"Sonically, the discs convey a high degree of live atmosphere due to their fundamental, organic sound, ..., with Davis Gilmour's voice appearing present and clearly delineated in the center. Combined with the clear, even slightly distant, spatial spectrum, one easily succumbs to the illusion of having an expansive stage in front of one." (Stereo, July 2021)
