In January 1977 Pink Floyd released their tenth studio album "Animals"

The work conquered No. 1 in the German charts, is considered one of their best - and it is now, 45 years later, re-released as Deluxe Gatefold Edition, CD, LP and Blu-ray. For the first time ever, the album will be heard in 5.1 surround sound. The individual versions will be available from September 16, 2022, with the deluxe version following on October 7.

"Animals 2018 Remix" will be released as a CD, LP (with gatefold sleeve artwork), Blu-ray audio and deluxe gatefold format. The deluxe gatefold version includes an LP, CD, audio Blu-ray, audio DVD and a 32-page booklet. The audio Blu-ray and DVD include the 2018 remix in stereo, in 5.1 surround (both by James Guthrie) and the original stereo mix from 1977. The 32-page booklet provides a behind-the-scenes look at the shoot for the record sleeve with rarely seen photos, as well as live images and memorabilia. The album artwork has been reinterpreted for this release with a contemporary motif.

"Animals" is a concept album critical of socio-political conditions in mid-1970s Britain, marking a departure from the style of the band's earlier work. From a collection of originally unrelated songs, Pink Floyd developed a concept that described the apparent social and moral decay of society. Inspired by George Orwell's "Animal Farm," they visualize human nature with an analogy to the animal kingdom, dividing people into three classes of animals: The pigs are at the top of the social chain, the sheep do as they are told as a mindless herd, and the dogs are the business bosses who shamelessly enrich themselves on profit and their power over others. A lot of time has passed since 1977 - and then again not at all, because the album's narrative has lost none of its relevance as a commentary on our social and economic situation

The famous cover of "Animals" shows an inflatable pig (now known as an Algie) floating at lofty heights between two chimneys of Battersea Power Station in London. The idea for the cover came from Roger Waters, with the realization handled by the band's longtime creative partner, Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis Studios. For the current re-release, Storm's Hipgnosis partner Aubrey "Po" Powell redesigned the artwork for modern times. Based on new footage of the building during its recent remodel (the former power plant is being converted for cultural and commercial use, designed by Frank Gehry and Norman Foster), Po experimented with new angles and created some stunning new variations on the famous original. Says Po, "The original 1977 album cover is iconic and stands so much on its own that I had a lot of respect for giving it an update. But Hipgnosis took the opportunity to re-photograph the motif to reflect a changing world. By using modern digital coloring techniques, I was able to retain Pink Floyd's somber message of moral decay, and the Orwellian animal analogy in the form of Algie the pig also lives on in the new artwork."
