Fuji has dominated Nigeria's pop scene since the early 1970s alongside Highlife, Juju, Afrobeat, Sakara, Afro-Reggae, Waka, Igbo Rap and Apala. Fuji is a combination of traditional African drums, Arabic-Islamic chants and Western instrumentalisation, which has its origins in the ceremonies of Ramadan, but was then increasingly used as dance and light music, mainly due to the success of Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister . Characteristic of Fuji is the improvised and percussive combination of the local Yoruba culture with modern non-African elements to create a wild, ecstatic and polyrhythmic "wall of sound". The album "Syncho Sound System & Power", produced by Soul Jazz on site in Lagos, shows once again that this has a high level of energy. This featured some of the country's most renowned Fuji drummers and singers, such as Taofik Yemi Fagbenro as the Nigeria Fuji Machine. "Syncho Sound System & Power" contains seven tracks and will be released as a limited LP on 180g vinyl and a deluxe CD.
