Victor Démé - Victor Démé
Vinyl 2LP
Record/Vinyl
Born in 1962 in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, Victor Démé first came into contact with music through his griot mother. Later living with his father in Abidjan, he had to sing secretly in bands while officially doing an apprenticeship as a tailor. in 1988, he returned to Ouagadougou, devoted himself more than ever to music and won several talent contests. Soon he was a well-known singer, but mostly interpreting classics by well-known artists like Salif Keita
It wasn't until 2007 that he went into business for himself, founding his own label Chapa Blues Records and recording his self-titled debut album of original songs in his home converted into an improvised studio. Nevertheless, the 15 songs are also of excellent sonic quality, Démé understood excellently to merge Afro-pop with strong influences of the Mandinka music tradition as well as with blues, salsa and flamenco
Carried by his beautiful, partly multilingual vocals, a strong Afropop work emerges, which entered ad hoc in France at number 76 in the album charts and is still one of the most successful productions from Burkina Faso ever.
For this reissue, only the original recordings (without post-production) and the original visuals were used.
