The story of The Movers began in 1967 when two unknown musicians - brothers Norman and Oupa Hlongwane - asked Kenneth Siphayi, an elegant and wealthy businessman from the township of Alexandra, if he could buy them musical instruments.

In exchange, he would receive a cut of future gigs and record deals. But Kenneth did much more than that: he became their manager, set them up in a rehearsal space and put them in touch with an organist who would prove to be the missing link in the band's sonic framework. He also gave them their name: The Movers...because, as he said, their music would move you whether you like it or not.
